Belmont Heights includes homes between 7th Street on the north, 4th Street on the south, Newport Avenue on the west and Roswell Avenue on the east. A few properties located on 4th and 7th streets are included. The neighborhood was first subdivided and developed in the 1900s. The oldest homes surviving today date from 1905. The predominant architectural style in the district is the Craftsman bungalow. Most homes are single-family, with some duplexes and a few apartment houses.
Belmont Shore: 2nd Street forms the heart of Belmont Shore, from approximately Bluff Park on the west to Alamitos Bay and Naples Island on the east. 2nd Street and the fifteen intersecting side streets make up the business district of Belmont Shore. The neighborhood features Spanish-style homes from the 1920s and 1930s, older houses remodeled and expanded into contemporary styles, numerous large contemporary houses, and sections of multifamily apartment buildings. Naples is a highly desirable area in the city. Its proximity to the canals, water, boating makes it one of the city’s’ best neighborhoods. Naples is built on three islands located in Alamitos Bay. The islands are divided by canals which open into the bay. Residents and visitors can kayak or paddleboard through the canals. Most of the streets on the island have Italianate names. The neighborhood was named after the Italian city Naples.
